Delicious Ways To Prepare Sweet Potatoes

The sweet potato is a popular root crop in many parts of the world. In Nigeria, it is known for its delicious taste and versatility. It is also very affordable. 

There are different meals you can use the sweet potato to prepare, among them:

  • Potato pottage
  • Fried potatoes
  • Boiled potatoes
  • Mashed potatoes

 

Potato pottage

Often called potato "porridge" in error, this is similar to the yam pottage. To cook the potato pottage, first, you need the following ingredients;

  • Potatoes
  • Palm oil
  • Salt
  • Seasoning cubes
  • Fish, or crayfish
  • Water
  • Vegetables

After getting them, follow these steps:

  1. Peel the potatoes, dice them into small pieces and rinse. 
  2. Arrange in a pot half-filled with water, according to the quantity of the potatoes. 
  3. Put the pot on the cooker and leave to boil up.
  4. Start putting your ingredients in the order you desire, but for the boiling method, it is advised that palm oil should be the first and vegetables, the last.
  5. Stir properly.
  6. Your potato pottage is ready, served with chilled water or a drink. 

 

Fried Potatoes

For fried potatoes, popularly called potato chips, all you need do is peel and dice the potatoes into strips or the sizes you like. Salt them and put oil in a pan and fry until it's gold, golden brown, or brown as you desire. Serve with ketchup, stew, stew sauce, or egg sauce. 

 

Boiled potatoes

You can decide to boil the potatoes along with their skin and peel them when the potatoes are soft. But if you're peeling them first, dice them into your desired size and add enough salt before you start boiling in water. Serve with ketchup, stew, stew sauce, sauce, or egg sauce. 

 

Mashed potatoes

For mashed potatoes, peel and boil your potatoes. When soft, pound softly in a mortar. You can fry the mesh along with egg sauce or any other type of sauce you choose. The preparation of mashed potatoes differs based on individual preferences, though.
